Just this past weekend I had the incredible honor to have 8 very talented wedding photographers from throughout the southeast over to our home studio to teach the art and business of wedding photography. We had such a diverse group, from people that had only been shooting a year or so, to seasoned photographers with 20+ years of experience. We had some people from right here in Greenville to people coming all the way from Atlanta and as far as Washington DC. What was amazing to me was how well everyone bonded together, made friends and shared their unique angle on photography. We covered everything from shooting the “getting ready” portion of the day, all the way through the reception, and talked about everything from workflow to marketing to pricing and everything in between. My head is still swimming trying to figure out how we crammed all this into both days.

One of my favorite portions of the workshop was our live shoot with a newly engaged couple. Although I’m good friends with Mike and Siobhan, I’ve never really photographed them before, and I wanted to show how to shoot a REAL couple, not one I’ve already shot before and DEFINITELY not a bunch of professional models like a lot of workshops incorporate. That’s just cheating in my opinion. We started off shooting just before sunset showing some of the techniques we talked about in the class and then headed downtown to finish up with a few night shots and grab some dinner afterwards. Such an awesome, jammed packed weekend, and so many great memories and photos to show for it. Can’t wait to do it again soon!

Thanks to everyone that traveled so far to come to the workshop! It was a complete honor! I will post up information on my for photographers section as soon as I have information about the next time I’ll be holding it!

Foggy Cliffs at Glassy Chapel Mountain Wedding | Megan and Patrick

Megan and Patricks’s wedding was like a mini wedding scavenger hunt for me. They had this very small underlying detail of a bee themed wedding. There was a small bee on the back of the cake, a very glamorous bling bee on her bouquet, and bees scattered throughout her wedding pamphlet. It was like a game of how many bee’s I can find. Along the way I found some other awesome details Megan put together including a pretty epic dance moves flow chart.

Megan and Patrick were married this past weekend up at the always gorgeous Cliffs at Glassy Chapel and reception following at the Cliffs Valley Clubhouse. The thick fog gave a unique flavor to the images that I really liked and the gorgeous setup at the reception really set things off for the crazy party that unfolded later.

I always love when I get the chance to incorporate a cool car in an engagement session. Sometimes it’s just a cool prop, but in this case its actually got some significance. You see, Michelle and Garrett both work for BMW, actually just a few steps from where we did the shoot. They picked arguably my favorite BMW to fit into the shoot, the Z4. Throw in a stunning sunset and awesome fall colors and you’ve got photographic nirvana.

I’m always amazed at the shear variety of people I get to meet though photography. Trey works as a crossfit instructor so when he mentioned that Brandi and him wanted to do a few photos with their gymnastic rings… I was pretty excited. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Besides being in ridiculously good shape, this couple is also a lot of fun to be with, and are pretty much willing to do handstands where ever possible. Can’t wait to do them again at your wedding next year!
